For the past ten years, I have been working with a diverse group of volunteers in Santa Rosa, California, to get more citizens engaged and organized, give everyone a voice and role, and improve the way we work together in our city. We formed an organization called Santa Rosa Together to give us all a place to focus on this work to strengthen our community and our local democracy. Before moving to Santa Rosa, I worked in the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington. While there I had a chance to help design and work on the CARE Program, a new model for partnering with and helping build the capacity of local communities.
If you would like to read about what Santa Rosa Together has been doing, checkout this case study of our work published in the National Civic Review last year. We have learned a lot through our work and this case study also includes our “lessons learned”.
